Allah chose Muhammad, peace be upon him, above all creation to convey His message, and He chose the people who were around His messenger to defend and spread the Deen, The companions were described by the Prophet as being the best of generations, thus it is a must for every Muslim to follow and emulate their ways. Abu Hasnayn explains the importance and virtues of the companions of the Prophet. 3. Thugz or Mugz: The Reality of the Gangster Lifestyle
By Murtaza Khan. We need to face facts: Muslim involvement in drugs and the gangster lifestyle is increasing at an alarming rate in the West. Muslims are now heavily involved with the planting, harvesting, refinement, smuggling, and distribution of drugs within our communities. Rather than taking the Prophets and Companions as heroes, our youth look up to the drug traffikers and rap artists. In this lecture the speaker addresses some of the common problems that are prevalent in our communities such as drugs, guns and Rap music. One must always remember that being a practicing Muslim is not restricted to praying, fasting and going for Hajj. Rather, Islam is a complete way of life and has injunctions with regards to business, trade, marriage, divorce, inheritance and so on. Hence, one cannot be termed a practicing Muslim if one’s earnings are through unlawful means
4. The Importance of Knowledge
Allah has exalted man through knowledge and through it he becomes closer to Allah. The speaker discusses the necessity of knowledge and its types. He talks about the status and superiority of those who have knowledge and the importance of having the correct intention for seeking it.
5. Backbiting and a Good Word
In this set of two Friday Sermons, Abu Hasnayn explains the severity of gheeba – backbiting. He talks of its types and how the Prophet, peace be upon him, explained it to be. The second khutba is in contrast to the first. The speaker explains what type of speech a believer should indulge in. As the Prophet said ‘Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent.’
6. Drinking & Gambling
Just like good deeds go hand in hand, evil deeds are mentioned together in the Qur’an; to highlight that if you enter into one of them, you’ll be encouraged to do the other action. And upon this dunya we clearly find that wherever you find khamr (alcohol) you’ll find maysir (gambling). What’s the ruling regarding the one who doesn’t drink alcohol but sells it? In this Friday sermon, Abu Hasnayn presents the answer to this question and provides evidence to clarify misconceptions held by many Muslims in our time.
‘Those who eat Riba will not stand (on the Day of Resurrection) except like the standing of a person beaten by Shaitan leading him to insanity. That is because they say: “Trading is only like Riba”, whereas Allah has permitted trading and forbidden Riba.’ (al-Baqarah:275) Abu Hasnayn highlights the grave sin of Riba and explains the consequences for those involved in Riba transactions.
8. Natural Disasters
‘See they not that they are put in trial once or twice every year? Yet, they turn not in repentance, nor do they learn a lesson (from it)’ (Surah at-Tawbah: 126) Humanity is living in a time where the occurrences of ‘natural disasters’ are on the increase. Many see these as mishaps or miscalculations and remain heedless. As for the ones who Allah has showered His Mercy upon, then they clearly witness the prophecy of the final Prophet (peace be upon Him) come to life. How should a believer respond to these obvious signs of the coming of the Final Hour?
9. The Spiritual Solution to Materialism
By Murtaza Khan. Many people are drowning in materialism and two extremes have become prevalent amongst the Muslims. Presenting to a group of sixth form students, the speaker discusses the choice of total assimilation into society where Islam plays a minimal role in the life of Muslims and the total abandonment of participating in society. What is the middle path? What was the opinion of the companions of the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him? And what is the spiritual solution?
10. Temptations of the Dunya
By Murtaza Khan. In this awakening lecture the speaker brings home to the listeners the state of affairs of the Ummah of Muhammad, peace and blessing of Allah be upon him; Focussing on the great portion of Muslims who have taken to indulging in their desires and temptations, he hi-lights many of the common problems today. Also Allah, the Most High, has created man as a supreme and noble creature and has raised from amongst mankind, the Muslims as the best of people, yet due to imitating the disbelievers and by giving into desires have the Muslims become low. Concluding on a positive note, the speaker reminds the believing servants to try and change this state of affair with their hands, tongues or at least their hearts.
11. Searching For A Spouse
At a time when marital harmony amongst the practising population is worsening and divorce is on the increase, Abu Hasnayn looks at some of the misconceptions and illnesses that exist within this community when choosing a spouse. He reflects upon certain problems that arise within marriages and offers pragmatic solutions. He also discusses the importance of marriage and the qualities to be sought in a spouse.

To answer to the comments made by sheikh Al- Azahr about the Niqab, andthe lessons the Ummah needs to learn from his comments Allaah (swt) says: And recite (O Muhammad (peace be upon him)) to them the story of him to whom We gave Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), but he threw them away; so Shaitân (Satan) followed him up, and he became of those who went astray. When the earth is shaken with its (final) earthquake. And when the earth throws out its burdens, And man will say: “What is the matter with it?” That Day it will declare its information (about all what happened over it of good or evil). Because your Lord has inspired it. That Day mankind will proceed in scattered groups that they may be shown their deeds. So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it. And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it. [Az-Zalzala]
